Frequently Asked Questions
Are you certified?
Answer:
Yes, I am a Certified Permanent Makeup Artist.
What is PMU?
Answer:
Permanent Makeup (PMU), also known as permanent cosmetics, derma-pigmentation, micro-pigmentation, and cosmetic tattooing, is a cosmetic technique that uses tattoos to create designs resembling makeup, such as eyeliner and other permanent enhancing colors for the face, lips, and eyelids.
Does PMU hurt?
Answer:
Pain levels vary from person to person. Everyone has a different sensitivity, so topical anesthetics are applied before and during the treatment to minimize discomfort. Some clients may feel one side of the brow more than the other, and you may hear a scratch sound during the procedure. Music is typically played, but feel free to bring your own headphones and music for extra distraction.
Is PMU safe?
Answer:
Yes, it is completely safe. I use sterilized, disposable needles and supplies to ensure the highest level of hygiene and safety during the procedure.
Will I be swollen after PMU?
Answer:
No, there is no significant swelling. You may experience slight redness around the treated area, which should subside within an hour.
Will I need a PMU touch-up?
Answer:
Yes, most clients will need a touch-up. After your initial treatment, the color may fade significantly within a week, and over the next 4-6 weeks, it can fade by up to 50%. This is normal and allows you time to assess the shape and color. The follow-up touch-up is scheduled at this point to make any necessary adjustments.
How often do I need a PMU touch-up?
Answer:
To keep your PMU looking fresh, we recommend scheduling a touch-up every year.
How long does PMU last?
Answer:
PMU can last up to 4 years without any touch-ups, but regular maintenance is needed to keep the results looking fresh and vibrant.
Why do I need a touch-up if this is semi-permanent?
Answer:
Your face is more exposed to factors such as sun, food, and facial products, which can cause the pigment to fade faster than it would on other parts of the body. The more fluid circulation in the facial area also contributes to faster fading, which is why a touch-up is necessary.
How long does the procedure take?
Answer:
The procedure generally takes about 2 hours, but it may take more or less time depending on the individual. Please allow up to 3 hours for your appointment to ensure there is enough time for a thorough, unhurried process.
Do I need to take a day off work?
Answer:
No, there is no downtime after the treatment. The redness and swelling subside within an hour, and while the treated area may appear darker initially, it won’t prevent you from going about your daily activities.
How long does it take to heal?
Answer:
Healing time varies, but typically it takes about 1-2 weeks for the epithelial crust to form and slough off. The pigment continues to settle in the skin for up to a month after the procedure, at which point the process is considered complete.
What’s the process like?
Answer:
The eyebrow tattoo procedure is a two-step process: the initial treatment followed by a touch-up 4-6 weeks later. First, we take a before photo and draw the desired brow shape on you with pencil so you can visualize the form. Once we agree on the shape and color, a topical anesthetic is applied for comfort. Afterward, the pigment is carefully deposited into the skin. During healing, some pigment loss is normal, which is why the touch-up is necessary.
What should I avoid after the procedure?
Answer:
To ensure optimal healing, avoid swimming, sweating, or getting the treated area wet for several days. Refrain from tanning, sun exposure, and touching the area, as picking or scratching can cause pigment loss or scarring. You can wash your hair and face once healed.
How can I extend the life of my PMU?
Answer:
To prolong the life of your permanent makeup, apply sunscreen frequently to the treated area and avoid harsh facial treatments. Protecting your skin from the sun will prevent premature fading.
How many colors do you offer?
Answer:
I offer 9 main colors, which I can blend to create custom shades tailored to each client's preferences. Please keep in mind that immediately after the procedure, the pigment may appear darker than expected, but this will fade as healing progresses.
Do you have to shave off my eyebrows?
Answer:
No, I make every effort to retain your natural eyebrow hairs and incorporate them into the design. In some cases, a few hairs may need to be removed for shaping, but the goal is to create a clean and natural-looking result.
What if my skin doesn’t retain the pigment?
Answer:
Occasionally, some clients may experience issues with pigment retention. In such cases, a third appointment can be scheduled to make any necessary adjustments. Factors like skin sensitivity, scarring, or underlying conditions can sometimes cause pigment to fade more quickly or be rejected by the skin. Rest assured, I will review the results and work with you to address any concerns.
Can you guarantee the results?
Answer:
While I can’t guarantee how your skin will react, I ensure the highest level of care, using my expertise to give you the best results possible. Factors such as skin type, diet, health, and stress levels play a role in how the pigment holds, so additional touch-ups may be needed. My goal is to make you feel confident and satisfied with your results.
What if I don't like my PMU?
Answer:
Although PMU is semi-permanent, changes in shape and color are possible. I will work closely with you to ensure you are satisfied with the outcome. If you are unsure, a temporary option might be a better options for you. If you don't like the results, the pigment will naturally fade over time and any adjustments can be made during a touch up appointment.
